Hi friend,

Today, you'll learn critical self-talk skills to help you achieve your fitness goals faster. 

Your mind is your strongest opponent standing in the way of your goals, whether to look amazing, lift heavier, run faster or further.

Here's the most important thing to remind yourself daily to ensure your mind is working for you and not against you.

Consistency is key.

Whether you achieve your goals depends on your average effort over time.

A single training session will not prepare you for anything worth doing. A week of dieting won't make any noticeable changes to your physique. 

On the other hand, taking a day off will be okay as long as you're training hard most of the week. A big meal and a few drinks with friends won't derail you as long as you're dialled in for the rest of the week. 

Once you know what you're doing and have a solid plan, staying consistent is the only thing that matters. 

A week does not go by when I don't say an iteration of that message to one of my clients.

As an athlete (yes, I indulge myself and think of myself as an athlete), a day does not go by when I don't remind myself of the importance of consistent effort.

"Consistency is key". 

I think of those words when my lungs are burning, my heart is beating out of my chest, and my legs feel like bricks.

"Don't worry. Today isn't a personal best day. Just get the work done. You showed up, which is all that matters. You won the day. You've ticked the consistency box". 

I also think of those words on days when I feel amazing, and I know I will crush my personal best. 

"Wow, this feels amazing. Remember, it has nothing to do with luck. The fact that you are crushing it today results from the consistent effort you've put in throughout the previous weeks and months. Good job. Don't get too proud. Stay consistent."

Any goal you've achieved or will achieve is because of your consistency, and any broken and forgotten dream is not because of external factors. It's because of your consistency. Or lack thereof. 

Write it down. Say it out loud. Remind yourself of this truth both during times of triumph and struggle. You will find yourself progressing higher than you ever thought was possible.

Hitting your head on the wall consistently won't make you lean and muscular. You'll only get a sore forehead.
